Siri gets a new voice in iOS 15.4 beta update

The latest version of Apple's operating system, iOS 15.4, includes a totally different new voice, for its smart assistant Siri, Siri is an artificial intelligence with personal assistant functions sometimes with its own personality for iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.

Siri is Apple's voice-controlled personal assistant and she, or he, has been around for several years. The assistant first appeared on the iPhone 4S. Siri has developed over the years, her intelligence has grown, and her abilities have expanded.

Now, the fifth voice comes just under a year after Apple added its last two Siri voices and will drop the default use of a female voice.

Last year, Apple removed Siri's female voice as the default when it released its iOS 14.5 operating system, giving iPhone and iPad users in the US the ability to select their own voice preference.

Last year's voices were recorded by African American voice actors as part of the company's "longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion," Apple said at the time.

The new beta version of iOS 15.4 adds a fifth voice for Siri, which is named "Voice 5". But, iOS developer Steve Moser said the file name appears as "Quinn"

Axios, another source, posted that the new voice sounds more gender-neutral than previous Siri voices. And Apple responded by confirming that the new voice was recorded by a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but the company did not elaborate on the identity of the voice actor.

Apple told Axios that it is "excited to introduce a new Siri voice for English speakers, giving users more options to choose a voice that speaks to them."

Apparently now Siri adds a new gender-neutral voice for iOS 15.4, i.e. gender-neutral. The new voice option is available for English speakers on Tuesday to the latest beta version of iOS 15.4.

Siri's English options currently include British, American, Irish, Indian, Australian, and South African accents.

Although Apple has not made an official announcement, the company is expected to hold its next event on March 8 with plans to introduce new products and features, including the confirmation of Quinn, the fifth voice of Siri.
