YouTube Music for Wear OS

Tech Giant, Google unveiled two major new features this week with YouTube Music for Wear OS. More importantly, it is possible to play streaming music directly online via Wi-Fi or LTE allowing users to listen to their favorite music without having to keep their phones nearby. However, note that you’ll need a YouTube Premium subscription to download or stream music. In the past, it was only possible to download songs in advance and then listen to them offline. Google also notes that mobile streaming is not supported on iOS

Another useful feature is the ability you can now add a new YouTube Music tile to your watch that allows quick access to your recently played playlist or to the browse page of the YouTube Music app.

As Google wrote in a user community post;

We’re excited to share that the YouTube Music app on your Wear OS watch is rolling out two new features. First, starting this week you will be able to stream music over LTE* or WiFi, so you can listen to your favorite playlists wherever you go, even when your phone isn't nearby. Second, you can now add a new YouTube Music tile to your watch that allows quick access to your recently played playlist or to the browse page of the YouTube Music app.

As a YouTube Music Premium subscriber, you’ll have access to more than 80 million songs and thousands of playlists on your YouTube Music app. This standalone app is the first smartwatch app from YouTube Music that allows YouTube Music Premium subscribers to download and stream music for ad-free listening, even without your phone nearby. The app also comes with the Smart Downloads feature, which refreshes the songs you’ve downloaded to your watch whenever it’s connected to WiFi. The app will even offer tailored playlists based on your listening history, so you can choose the perfect soundtrack for whatever you’re doing writing Google.
