Airbnb permanently bans parties

No more parties! Airbnb officially announces a PERMANENT ban on all parties at its rental locations. The company believes there is a direct correlation between our implementation of the policy in August 2020 and a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports. The ban has been well received by the Host community and also received positive feedback from community leaders and elected officials.

Also added, In late 2019, Airbnb has tightened its measures to prohibit both “open-invite” parties (i.e., those advertised on social media) as well as “chronic party houses” that had developed into neighborhood nuisances.

At that time, the company also launched a Neighborhood Support Line in a number of jurisdictions as a direct line for neighbors to communicate any concerns to Airbnb, which has helped them to enforce that prohibition on party houses.

The temporary ban has proved effective, and today we are officially codifying the ban as our policy. - say's Airbnb in a blogpost.

No more Airbnb parties

On Tuesday the company moved to permanently ban “disruptive parties and events,” which include open-invitation gatherings. In other words, goodbye to the rentals that customers booked especially to organize a big event for one night.

“The ban was well received by our host community,” the post read. Airbnb says it has received positive feedback from community leaders and elected officials. Thus “based on this dynamic, we believe that the time has come to codify this policy”, concludes the company.

But Airbnb argued the tighter rules have been effective in reducing the rate of rowdiness complaints it has received.

Under the new policy, Airbnb will also lift its 16-person cap at rental properties, a rule enacted against Covid but which will now take into account that certain larger or outdoor sites are OK for bigger groups.

The company said people breaking the rules face consequences from account suspension to full removal from the platform, adding that in 2021, over 6,600 guests were suspended over the party ban.
