Google Maps Now Shows Air Quality in Your Area

Google Maps- Air Quality Index (AQI)

Google Maps on Wednesday launched a new feature called the Air Quality Index (AQI) that allows users to check the air quality not only in their area but also in possible destinations, the new layer was announced last year in March 2021 and is now available for the Android and iOS versions of the app.

This feature currently starts rolling out only to users in the US, India, and Australia, the new feature shows a measure of how healthy (or unhealthy) the air is, along with guidance for outdoor activities, when the information was last updated and links to learn more.

How to check air quality on Google Maps?

To check the AQI, just tap the Google Maps layers icon and select the air quality layer. When accessing the option, the feature automatically zooms out to show an overview of air quality in a wider geographic area. To focus on specific locations, you will need to zoom in again.

In the preview, the nearest air quality monitoring stations will appear as small bubbles, showing color-coded dots, indicating the air quality as a scale. Each bubble is clickable, Just clicking on a bubble reveals additional information such as guidance for outdoor activities and when the information was last updated.

Google in its blog post added that;
The air quality layer shows trusted data from government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency in the U.S. We are also showing air quality information from PurpleAir, a low-cost sensor network that gives a more hyperlocal view of conditions.
